English Lessons (Writing): Essay Topics Level Two (36 to 77)

LEVEL 2

36 u CHOOSE THREE SONGS THAT ARE VERY MEMORABLE TO YOU.  They can be old songs that you loved when you were young or new songs that you recently discovered.  Discuss the story or meaning of the songs, and other interesting facts about the songs and explain why the song is important to you.

Example:

One of the songs that I really like is “Who are the People in your Neighbourhood?”  It was a song from Sesame Street, which was a children’s television show.  It is a simple short and catchy song. It is just less than three minutes.  It was not sold as a CD in the Philippines and children only got to hear it on Sesame Street Show.  The song is about the different people living in our neighbourhood; for example, farmers, nurses, plumbers and teachers.  The song explains that many people have important jobs.  A plumber is important as a doctor and a taxi driver is important as an airplane pilot.  People help one another, and without the help of our neighbors, life will surely be hard.  For example, in the song, it said that if our pipes are broken, we need a plumber.  Without a plumber, then we cannot take showers; we cannot get regular supply of water, and so we cannot do even the simple things in life.  I used to sing this song when I was five years old. In fact, I still remember the lyrics.   It may be a children’s song but it taught me the importance of my neighbour.

You choose “having siblings”
You choose both

Sample Topic: Only Child versus Having Siblings
Sample Introduction:

There are many differences between an only child and a child that has siblings. My friend is an only child and there are many differences in the way we act. She always thinks of herself first, but that is not always a bad thing. Many of these differences are a result of being an only child.

The first difference is personality. An only child is much more demanding than a child that has siblings. The only child wants to have things done right away. When my friend tells her mother that she needs clean clothes, she expects her mother to wash them right away. Her parents do not know how to say no. If her mother does not wash her clothes right away, then my friend becomes very upset. In contrast, a child that has siblings is not as bossy as the only child. Children that have brothers or sisters know that not everything can be done immediately. I have two siblings  and my mom cannot do many tasks  all  at once. I am not bossy towards my brother and sister because I do not like having people boss me around. I am considerate of my family’s feelings. .....
