Writing: As Well As versus And

* AS WELL AS is similar to AND but AS WELL AS is usually used when the second subject [or noun] is not as equally as important as the first subject.

Example: The manager as well as his employees is worried about the new price increase. [This means the manager is the focus and the phrase “the employees” is just additional information. This is why the verb is still IS not ARE.]

* If you use AND, the first and second nouns are equally important.

Example: The manager and his employees are worried about the new price increase.
[The verb is now ARE because the manager and employees are the subjects.]

Other phrases similar to AS WELL AS are along with, with, together with, in addition to

* AS WELL

“AS WELL” has the same meaning as ALSO but you cannot put AS WELL in the same position of ALSO.  AS WELL is usually placed at the end of a sentence
Example:
I like to go swimming as wellShe also likes to swim. She as well likes to swim.
