"Little Place, Big Taste" (Vidasto Pizzeria on Zabarte Drive)

Supreme Pizza
One of the perks of having friends who are gastronomic geniuses is that I have the privilege of gorging myself with delectable dishes that are not available even in high-end restaurants. I get to eat original dishes or modified fusion dishes without paying. Sometimes, I just bring the drinks or the usual uninspiring “lechon manok.” I am blessed that I have a brother and friends who are great cooks and one of them has started his own small food business. Now, the public will get to taste sumptuous yet affordable dishes that I often get during our parties and trips.

Vidasto is not your usual pizzeria. It offers affordable but tasty pizzas. In Italian restaurants in malls, you have to shell out at least 150 pesos for dishes that are not always worth their prices. In contrast, Vidasto’s prices are surprisingly affordable, ranging from 69 to 109 pesos only.

Aside from its mouthwatering pizzas, Vidasto also sells chicken wings prepared in four different ways: Buffalo, honey BBQ, teriyaki and garlic Parmesan.

For special orders only, Vidasto also offers special pasta dishes, which are not your typical spaghetti or fettuccine. In fact, most of Vidasto’s pasta dishes rival those of pricey Italian restaurants in malls.  I may be biased because the owner is a friend of mine but you do not have to take my word for it; just try the dishes for yourself. Perhaps, I may be risking my reputation as a food critic, but as Anton Ego of “Ratatouille” said, “There are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the ‘new.’ The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.” I also know the chef is not easily satisfied with his dishes. He has a habit of continually modifying his dishes and making them even better. As he once told me, “If these dishes are no different from other dishes that you can buy in other stores, what is the point?”

Spicy Penne with beef and mushroom (P 89)
Scampi shrimp with lemon zest ala Jose (P99)

This is just the start. Knowing the chef, I expect to see more Italian dishes and, maybe even, fusion dishes in the future.

For now, Vidasto only has one branch located on Zabarte Avenue in Quezon City. The small take-out place is figuratively a newly born bouncing baby boy (alliteration intended). If you just happen to be in Zabarte, check this new place. You will not be disappointed. Buon Appetito!
