Vocabulary

A. beating heart
Example: Paris is the beating heart of France.

  • French: cœur battant (Paris est le cœur battant de la France.)
  • Korean: 뛰는 심장 (파리는 프랑스의 뛰는 심장이다.)
  • Japanese: 鼓動する心臓(パリはフランスの鼓動する心臓です。)
  • Chinese: 动的心脏(巴黎是法国跳动的心脏。)

B. gather (verb)
Example: Families gather at the table for dinner.

  • French: se rassembler (Les familles se rassemblent à table pour le dîner.)
  • Korean: 모이다 (가족들은 저녁 식사를 위해 식탁에 모인다.)
  • Japanese: 集まる(家族は夕食のためにテーブルに集まります。)
  • Chinese: 聚集(家人们在餐桌旁聚集吃晚饭。)

C. whip up
Example: She can whip up a meal in 30 minutes.

  • French: préparer rapidement (Elle peut préparer rapidement un repas en 30 minutes.)
  • Korean: 재빨리 만들다 (그녀는 30 안에 식사를 재빨리 만들 있다.)
  • Japanese: 手早く作る(彼女は30分で食事を手早く作れます。)
  • Chinese: 迅速做出(她可以在30钟内迅速做出一顿饭。)

D. catch up on
Example: I need to catch up on my homework this weekend.

  • French: rattraper (Je dois rattraper mes devoirs ce week-end.)
  • Korean: 따라잡다 (이번 주말에 숙제를 따라잡아야 한다.)
  • Japanese: 追いつく(今週末に宿題を追いつく必要がある。)
  • Chinese: 补上(我这个周末需要补上作业。)

E. come in handy
Example: A small flashlight can come in handy at night.

  • French: être utile (Une petite lampe de poche peut être utile la nuit.)
  • Korean: 유용하다 (작은 손전등은 밤에 유용할 있다.)
  • Japanese: 役に立つ(小さな懐中電灯は夜に役に立つかもしれない。)
  • Chinese: 派上用场(小手电筒在晚上可能派上用场。)

F. take on
Example: She will take on new responsibilities at work.

  • French: assumer (Elle va assumer de nouvelles responsabilités au travail.)
  • Korean: 맡다 (그녀는 직장에서 새로운 책임을 맡을 것이다.)
  • Japanese: 引き受ける(彼女は職場で新しい責任を引き受けます。)
  • Chinese: 承担(她将在工作中承担新的责任。)

G. stick to
Example: I try to stick to a healthy diet.

  • French: s'en tenir à (J’essaie de m’en tenir à un régime sain.)
  • Korean: 고수하다 (나는 건강한 식단을 고수하려고 한다.)
  • Japanese: 固守する(私は健康的な食事を固守しようとしています。)
  • Chinese: 坚持(我努力坚持健康饮食。)

H. sleek
Example: She bought a sleek new laptop.

  • French: élégant (Elle a acheté un nouvel ordinateur portable élégant.)
  • Korean: 매끈한 (그녀는 매끈한 노트북을 샀다.)
  • Japanese: なめらかな(彼女はなめらかな新しいノートパソコンを買いました。)
  • Chinese: 光滑的(她买了一台光滑的新笔记本电脑。)

I. show off
Example: He likes to show off his cooking skills.

  • French: se vanter (Il aime se vanter de ses talents de cuisinier.)
  • Korean: 자랑하다 (그는 요리 실력을 자랑하는 것을 좋아한다.)
  • Japanese: 見せびらかす(彼は料理の腕前を見せびらかすのが好きです。)
  • Chinese: 炫耀(他喜欢炫耀自己的烹饪技巧。)

J. gadgets
Example: Modern kitchens have many gadgets.

  • French: gadgets (Les cuisines modernes ont beaucoup de gadgets.)
  • Korean: 기기 (현대식 주방에는 많은 기기가 있다.)
  • Japanese: ガジェット(現代のキッチンには多くのガジェットがあります。)
  • Chinese: 小工具(现代厨房有很多小工具。)

K. come a long way
Example: Technology has come a long way in ten years.

  • French: faire beaucoup de progrès (La technologie a fait beaucoup de progrès en dix ans.)
  • Korean: 크게 발전하다 (기술은 10 동안 크게 발전했다.)
  • Japanese: 大きく進歩する(技術は10年で大きく進歩しました。)
  • Chinese: 取得长足进步(科技在十年间取得了长足进步。)

L. make do
Example: We had to make do with what we had.

  • French: se débrouiller (Nous avons dû nous débrouiller avec ce que nous avions.)
  • Korean: 있는 것으로 만족하다 (우리는 가진 것으로 만족해야 했다.)
  • Japanese: あるもので済ます(私たちは持っているもので済まさなければなりませんでした。)
  • Chinese: 将就(我们不得不用现有的东西将就。)

M. packed with
Example: The bag was packed with clothes.

  • French: rempli de (Le sac était rempli de vêtements.)
  • Korean: 가득 (가방은 옷으로 가득 찼다.)
  • Japanese: いっぱい詰まった(バッグは服でいっぱい詰まっていました。)
  • Chinese: 满(包里装满了衣服。)

N. passed down
Example: The recipe was passed down from my grandmother.

  • French: transmis (La recette a été transmise par ma grand-mère.)
  • Korean: 전해 내려오다 ( 요리법은 할머니에게서 전해 내려왔다.)
  • Japanese: 受け継がれる(そのレシピは祖母から受け継がれました。)
  • Chinese: 传承(这个食谱是从我祖母那里传下来的。
