Business English (Listening): "Problem Solving Process"

Vocabulary 1

1. A GIVEN – Something known or assumed to be true. Example: It's a given that the sun rises every morning.

2. PICK (verb) – To choose something or someone. Example
: She picked the blue dress for the party.

3. APPROACH (noun) – A way of dealing with something. Example
: Their approach to learning English is very effective.

4. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDES – Instructions to fix problems. Example
: The troubleshooting guide helped me repair my computer.


5. MANUALS – Books with instructions on how to use something. Example
: I read the manual to assemble the furniture.


6. FORUMS – Online spaces for discussing topics or questions. Example
: I found the answer on an online forum.

Guide Questions
1. What does the speaker say about problems?
2. How does the speaker solve problems?
3. How does the speaker solve technical and team-related problems?


Vocabulary 2

1. BREAKING (SOMETHING) DOWN INTO – Dividing something into smaller parts to understand it. Example
: We broke the problem down into smaller steps to solve it.


2. ROOT CAUSE – The main reason something happens. Example
: We need to find the root cause of the error.


3. TACKLE (verb) – To try to deal with a problem. Example
: He tackled the difficult homework with patience.


4. MISS (verb) – To not see, catch, or experience something. Example
: I missed the bus because I woke up late.


5. COLLABORATE – To work with someone to do something. Example
: The two teams collaborated to finish the project quickly.


6. COME UP WITH – To think of a new idea or solution. Example
: She came up with a creative plan for the party.

1. How does the speaker solve a new problem?
2. Does the speaker prefer to solve problems alone or not? Why?
