While mainstream movies and television dramas offer actors big money, independent films often showcase the talents of actors. In 2014, this is no exception. Fourteen out of 15 outstanding performances came from independent productions.  Here are the 15 outstanding performances according to our resident critics.  We forego the division between lead and supporting roles because “there’s no such thing as small parts, only small actors,” as the saying goes. About 35 days left before 2014 ends. Is 2014 a great year for Filipino films or not? What do you think?  One big film festival remains: the ominous Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), which is more of a carnival of commercial films than anything else. Still, MMFF’s New Wave section always offers one or two gems every year so there is still hope.
