After almost two
months of voting, our readers have made their choices. Here are the results of Brun
Philippines First Readers’ Choice Awards. The Readers’ Choice section
is a companion to our Critics’ Choice
Section. We value our readers’ opinions and we learn so much from them. The
number of people who voted is not substantial; after all, Brun Philippines is
not popular but we value every single vote. Perhaps next year, we will have a wider
readership. Thank you again for supporting us during our infancy. Thank you as well to Micropoll for providing us with a more secure survey service, guaranteeing the authenticity of each vote. Search This Blog

Updated: March 28, 2014 (6:00 P.M.) Recipients announced
Early January 2014, Brun Philippines was invited to participate for the first time in Pinoy Rebyu’s 2013 Movie Poll. Our official selections were voted by our resident and guest critics as well as selected readers. Since many critics consider 2013 as a resurgent year in Philippine cinema, we have decided to give our very own awards. Yes, another award-giving body! God help us. Insert sardonic grin here. Don fret, we aim to be the most “ironic self-aware” award-giving body in the country.

The Ten Best Filipino Films of 2013 (Put Down Your Guns, Our Humble Opinions Only)

Updated: January 17, 2013. Closing date for voting from our resident and guest critics, and selected readers.
Many critics have
declared 2013 as a very productive year for Philippine cinema and so choosing
the top ten best films of the year proved to be difficult even to jaded film
critics. As always, the bulk of quality
films were independently produced but, sadly, majority of them were not widely
seen and some films were even strictly confined in film festivals. Thus, while
many critics and film aficionados relish this “golden year” in Philippine
cinema, the rest of the movie-going public may still consider “My Little
Bossing,” “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” “Pagpag,” and “10,000 Hours” as the
benchmark for quality Filipino films.
Judging from the record-breaking earnings of the 2013 Metro Manila Film
Festival, things are not about to change drastically this year. Money still rules
the industry and majority of Filipino moviegoers still encourage commercialism
as opposed to film as an art form. Period.
